Hospice use by minorities is low

Here's an article by Florida Today dealing with statistics of hospice use by minorities.

One of the most curious statistics regarding hospice in the U.S. today is that only 9 percent of hospice patients are black.
I work in a largely Caucasian community, so I've always attributed the lack of African American patients to the low percentage of the population in our service area. Maybe I was wrong.

This seems to be something that should be rectified. How? I have no clue. By whom? I have no clue. Guess I'm not worth much on this one huh?

I think that there is a cultural barrier there based on fear of?? The black community rarely donates blood, which has always stumped those of us in the healthcare industry.
