Just wanted to wish everyone a happy new year.
I hope you and yours don't need to talk to someone like me this year.
(I usually open up conversations with families that have been referred to hospice by telling them that "I'm the guy they didn't want to meet today". It seems to break the ice when I let them know that I know they are not sure if I'm a blood sucking creature or worse. By the end of the conversation they are usually rather happy they met me, but, with all the misconceptions about hospice that are out there, I really can't imagine what is going through their heads before I walk through the door. I have had more than one person tell me that they couldn't believe the Doctor wanted them to talk to someone about helping to kill their loved one. When they find out that I'm in the business of caring for people with a terminal illness not "putting them to sleep" they relaxed a bit!)
